” My name is Julie, I’m a secondary school teacher, I’m in my early 60s and have had a lot of trouble with my teeth over the years.

When I was in national school I bumped into a friend, the result was a broken top front teeth.

I have never been blessed with nice teeth, bring a family up meant that dental work had to take a back seat for a long number of years.

Retirement and inheritance opened up the possibility of dental treatment so I made an appointment with my local dentist, he examined my teeth.

Best option for better looking teeth

He suggested that my best option for better looking teeth would be to have porcelain crowns inserted into the upper mouth.

I said fine how much do you estimate the cost would be, he replied about €1,000 for each one.

For a full top teeth porcelain crown inserts you are looking at a cost of €14,000.

I took the information home to discuss it with my husband.

Needless to say, we were a bit taken aback by how much porcelain crowns could cost in Ireland.

As luck would have it my husband was chatting to his friend John.

He had just returned from a Hungarian dentist where he needed to get full dental implants and a bone graft.

My husband put John on the phone to me, I asked him how much do full dental implants cost in Hungary, he replied a lot less than in Ireland.

After discussing the treatment and service with John he offered to book me into the Wexford clinic for an appointment.

I went there and was greeted by the lovely Angelika and Dr Thomas the dentist, they completed a full examination and xray of my teeth.

Cost of full dental  implants treatment

A few days later a very detailed dental plan was emailed, my husband and I were a little bit shocked at the cost of treatment.

At the same time delighted at the porcelain crown dental treatment plan cost, unbelievably low at just €4,000 a massive saving of €12,000.

To us it was a no brainer, travel to Hungary, stay in a hotel for one week, have the treatment done.

It was completed in that time, return home for any aftercare and yes, have a perfect smile.

Our experience of the service offered by Hungary Dental Implant Centre Wexford is to be highly recommend.

I’m absolutely delighted with my new teeth, the procedure has given me a whole new lease of life.”

  1. What an interesting article. I actually don’t know a lot about dental implants, as I always thought that false teeth were the answer once all your teeth decide to fall out. I like this idea a lot more, but yes it is very expensive.

You managed a huge saving there, but I suppose one has to look at flight as well to take the entire cost into consideration. It looks painful, and I wonder how painful it is in comparison to having your teeth pulled out.

  2. Actually I do not like this detel work very much. Because they hurt a lot. The other is, as you say, very expensive. But it has many benefits. You can eat the food you like, get a good smile, but it can also be damaged during surgeries like this. There are both advantages and disadvantages. Thanks so much for this detailed post. There is a lot of information about dental. Keep posting like this.

  3. I live in the USA.

I am impressed by the facilities, highly qualified trained oral surgeons, and the price you offer for an implant. It seems to be highly subsidized. It’s a real benefit to people over there. I like your publication of the testimony.

Dental implants are prohibitively expensive. If you have great insurance where premiums are huge, you can get benefits. I have heard from Indian dentists that people from the US travel to India for dental surgery. They visit tourist places and stay in luxury hotels. All-inclusive costs are even lower compared to the US.

At old age, oral health can be a problem.

How comparable would your cost of implants be with the USA?

    • Hi,

Thank you for your comments, I’m not in a position to compare dental implant prices in your country versus Ireland, what I do know for certain is that Hungarian prices for implants and crowns are about 50% less than in Ireland.

  4. I have one but possibly two teeth that need implants – not a full set just yet. I had just started to look for prices and actually had no idea at all. Your article was great! Answered my questions and I think I can now book with confidence. I have travelled extensively in the UK and Europe and Hungary could be a good vacation place and tooth repair venue too on less money than I can probably get it for here. Thanks for this wonderful information about the cost of Implants.

    • Hi Katie,
Thank you for contacting us, yes we (my wife and I) have had experience of dental problems and how it was dealth with.
My wife had a broken tooth and some of her teeth needed to be extracted, we visited our local dentist in Wexford, he told us that it was a very complicated case, he would need to refer us to a specialist and he felt that ny wife needed dental implants.
Fast forward, a friend had visited Perfect Smile dental implants in Hodmezvasahely, Hungary, he needed gum grafts and implants, suffice to say he was extremely happy with their professionalism not to mention the €10,000 he saved by travelling to Hungary.
We went to Hungarian Dental Implant Centre Wexford for an xray and examination, Dr Tomas explained that my wife didn’t need implants, her best option would be to have porcelian crowns inserted in her top teeth.
We were quoted in the region of €16,000 to €20,000 for implants, slightly less for crowns in Wexford, Dr Tomas emailed a treatment plan that would take a week to do in Hungary.
We flew over last January, my wife had a couple of extractions, the 7 remaining upper teeth were used as a bridge for the porcelian crowns, all in all it cost €4,500 including flights, meals, drinks.
A massive saving of €12,000, the service was excellent and professional, suffice to say my wife is now a more confident, smiling happier person.
If you need to make an appointment with Dr Tomas in Wexford please let me know 0873490104.
      All the best,

  5. This is a very interesting article. I find taking care of teeth to be so important so one won’t have to get implants. However, things do happen. I I’m not much aware of dental surgery such as getting implants. I like the idea if it’s needed. As it has its risks. Thanks for.

  6. What a great knowledge article!  I wish I had seen this before doing my implant – not that I would have gone to Hungary but I certainly had no idea about the details and, risks, etc.  And people should not put blind trust into any medical provider without checking them out.  I really like the focus of the one center.  Good luck!

  7. Thank you very much for this information. I am in the UK, and the prices for implants are way too high. Having an option to compare with other countries and save lots of money is an option for me. Trust me; there are a lot of people around the world looking at this right now.

Thank you for sharing. Please keep them coming.

  8. Hello, I’m shocked by the prices! I knew dental work is less expensive in Europe, but I had never looked into it until recently. I require a crown implant within the next two years, but I’ve been putting it off because of the high cost in North America. I have a few friends who had dental work done here, and when they told me how much they had to pay, my jaw dropped. Even with insurance, the cost was in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Thank you for taking the time to write this article. I believe that having my dental surgery performed abroad is my best alternative. The sum I would spend here for a single procedure would cover several vacations and surgeries there, with plenty of money left over.

What is the booking situation like with Hungarian Dental Implant Centre Wexford? I imagine they must be very busy, and I’ll likely have to book in advance.

  9. This is a very helpful post on comparative costs of dental implants in Ireland, compared with Hungary. Dental treatment in the UK and Ireland can be prohibitively expensive, so to have the alternative to go to a state-of-the-art facility in Hungary, is great to know.

And combine that with a holiday in beautiful Hungary, and it is a no-brainer to save yourself hundreds, if not thousands of euros to get a great smile again. Thank you for sharing this great resource. I do not yet need implants, but will certainly bookmark this page for future reference.

  10. Thanks for sharing this well-detailed article. Getting a dental implant can be expensive depending on the country or location. I am considering getting an implant maybe by next year. I had a tooth extraction earlier this year. It was one of the premolars and I don’t like the way it looks when I laugh, so I am considering getting one. But after going through this article, I am a bit scared now.

Many are scared of the thought of going to a dentist, dentists understand this, they are caring and like to put the patient at ease.

  11. Reading your post struck a chord with me. My wife will be seeing her dentist soon for tooth removal as well as to get an assessment on dental implants. We live in the US and are on Medicare. One of the questions will be is any of this covered by her dental insurance.

In Ireland, would any of these costs be covered by Government dental insurance? I got the feeling when reading your post that the patient would have to bear the whole cost. If so, you have a very convenient system where the initial patient consultation and aftercare are done in Wexford, Ireland, and the implants are done in your facility in Hungary to keep costs down. The savings are very impressive indeed.

You listed the risks involved. What does the data show regarding the percentage of patients who experience any of these adverse effects?

There is one more benefit of visiting Hungary for the implant procedure. Combining that visit with a vacation! There is so much to see and experience in Hungary.

    Cheers.
